Newton’s Third Law anyone?

Well I’m no science buff (nor a football one for that matter-“Go the Lionesses!”) but I am fascinated by how people interact with each other, about how, being a positive minded person, I’m generally up for meeting and working with all types of people and yet despite best intentions I am also more than capable of putting my foot in it! Please say it’s not just me!

So back to Newton’s Third Law for a moment “for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction” i.e., when you kick a ball, there is the force of your foot on the ball, but there is also the same amount of force that the ball puts on your foot.

Where am I going with this?

No, I’m not suggesting anyone starts kicking anyone else! But it did start me thinking about all the workplace relationships I see get stuck, how a team can be full of high performing individuals and yet the team itself not be ranking amongst the best and don’t get me started on the amount of time spent on dealing with workplace conflict.

SO, what’s the answer? How do we and our teams perform at a higher level? I KNOW it to be by better understanding ourselves, better understanding others and crucially the effect we have on each other (the reaction we cause). Oh no! Not more “forced fun” I hear you cry! Definitely not, but I do have a magic wand that could help us to do all that…..
